Also: what we can do together through faith and discernment for all the churches in the Presbytery of the Western Reserve!
Have you ever wondered what new life in the church looks like? Come and learn more about the Vital Congregations Initiative (VCI). The pastoral leaders and elders of our churches are invited to come together on Thursday, September 12 at Lyndhurst Community Presbyterian Church, from 10 am to 3 pm, to begin wondering together what this might look like for us.
Western Reserve is one of fourteen presbyteries in our denomination that has been selected to take part in the two-year (2020 and 2021) VCI process. Two members of the Committee on Vitality – Rev. John Wahl and Rev. Jenni Walker-Noyes – have just returned from a national training to be facilitators for VCI in our presbytery. They will be guiding the formation of regional cohorts of pastors to begin meeting together for bible study and initial discussions about the 7 Marks of Congregational Vitality, which are:
1. Lifelong Discipleship Formation
2. Intentional, Authentic Evangelism
3. Outward Incarnational Focus
4. Empower Servant Leadership
5. Spirit-Inspired Worship
6. Caring Relationships
7. Ecclesial Health
As a first step, we have invited Rev. Alonzo Johnson – part of the VCI national team – to be with us on September 12 to explain the process and lead us in our first bible study. He will be joined by Chris Roseland of the Presbyterian Mission Agency; and Rev. Jihyun Oh from the Office of General Assembly, Mid-Council Ministries: who will be conducting an elder training for new or already installed session members.
Whether your church is large or small; located in setting that is urban, rural or somewhere in between, we hope that you will consider coming to learn more about VCI and the resources for growth and renewal that it can offer to our congregations. Lunch that day will be provided; we just ask that you RSVP for as many folks as you expect to come.
And, as an added incentive, there will be awesome gifts to the 1st, 16th, and 28th person who submits their RSVP below (just for fun!). See? This is an event not to miss!
Important note about the meal:
In order to accommodate a range of dietary needs, we will be serving salad with a variety of toppings. If this will not fit within your dietary restrictions, please make arrangements accordingly.
Please submit registrations one at a time.
If you are registering others on their behalf, complete the form for each person, click submit, and then click the link on the following page to enter another registration.
